There were two sources of inspiration for this synthetic image of St Michael's Church. Firstly a church in Australia where residents decorated the side of the church by drawing a rainbow in chalk.
Secondly a sermon preached by Oswin CR at the Community of the Resurrection on the 5th Sunday of Easter.
"... Look at the rainbow and praise Him who made it. The rainbow in our windows reminds us of
God's covenant with all flesh..."
He then quoted from the hymn O love that will not let me go (George Matheson 1842-1906, verse 3):
O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow thro' the rain, and feel the promise is not vain that morn shall tearless be.
